Sd Mmc Slot Not Working

SD cards are a great for storage of digital media, like photos or video clips in digital cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, and phones. Below are some of the reasons these cards may not work with a computer.

The SD drive worked prior to upgrading to Windows 10. However, after upgrading to Windows 10 it is no longer functioning correctly. The SD cards (I have tried several) work fine in another computer. However, now when I plug an SD card into the slot, the light comes on indicating it is plugged in properly (when I remove the card the light goes out). MMC vs SD Card comparison. MultiMediaCard (MMC) is a flash memory card standard. Typically, an MMC is used as storage media for a portable device, in a form that can easily be removed for access by a PC. Secure Digital (SD) is a flash (non-volatile) memory card format and is used fo. Poor contact can cause SD card not detected or recognized problem. In order to make it work again, you can remove the SD card, and then gently rub the copper piece with a rubber eraser. If necessary, also clean the SD card slot on your handset. This usually works if your SD card gets dirty. Unmount and remount SD card.

  • SD/MMC Card Slot Not Working! Not sure if this is the right place to put this question but here we go: HP Pavilion Slimline Running Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit.
  • I have had the same problem with my Dell XPS L502x but the SD card reader will read the slow cards 4gb but when I put a 32 GB xtream it will not read so I have to use a USB card reader, I also have trouble now with the integrated web-cam this will not work through the Windows applications but have done a test online and it works, I have tried.

Test the SD card

If the SD card works with your device (e.g., can see pictures on the camera) but doesn't work with your computer, it's safe to assume the computer card reader has problems. A temporary workaround would be to connect the camera, phone, or another device to the computer using a USB cable with the SD card in the device. Once connected, you can transfer the data from the device to the computer without using the SD card in your computer. Skip to checking the USB adapters to start troubleshooting and finding a more permanent solution.

If the SD card does not work with your device (e.g., camera) and isn't recognized by your computer, the SD card may be bad. Skip to check write-protection to start troubleshooting SD card related issues.

Note

If your smartphone cannot read an SD card, the card may have been formatted by a device that's incompatible with your phone's operating system. If you're experiencing this problem, visit your phone manufacturer's website for support.

Built-in memory card reader

Some laptop computers and desktop computers have a built-in memory card reader. The memory card reader may not be working properly and causing it to not read the memory card.

If you have access to another memory card, insert it into the computer reader to see if it can be read. If it can be read, your memory card is bad and likely needs to be replaced. If the other memory card is also not readable by the built-in memory card reader, it is a string possibility the memory card reader is not working. You would need to have an authorized service center look at and repair or replace the memory card reader in your computer. You can also try using an external USB memory card reader instead.

Checking the USB adapters

If you are trying to access the SD card using a USB card reader that connects to a USB port on the computer, try the suggestions below.

Use back USB ports

If you have a computer with front and back USB ports and the reader connects to the front ports, try using the back USB ports.

Disconnect and reconnect USB cable

Make sure the USB connector is securely attached to the USB port. You can verify its connection by disconnecting the USB connector and re-connecting it to the USB port.

Sd Mmc Slot Not Working

Also, make sure the USB connector is securely connected to card reader as well. If this connection is loose, it can cause the card reader not to work properly or at all.

Disconnect and restart computer

Disconnect the USB connector, restart the computer, and then re-connect the USB connector to the USB port. Sometimes this resets the connection and allows the device to work properly again and read the SD card.

Install available drivers

Some USB card readers may have drivers available on the manufacturer's website. In most cases, Windows does automatically detect and install standard drivers, but some card readers may work better with drivers designed specifically for that device.

Test different types of digital media card

If your USB card reader is capable of reading types of digital media cards, try reading a different card to test the reader. If more than one card cannot be read, then the USB card reader may be defective and unable to read SD cards.

Press the card in a little harder

With some card readers, the SD card may have to be pressed in a little harder. Do not force the SD card into the slot, but try pressing in a little more than you normally would to make sure it is firmly inserted into the slot.

No drive icon in my computer

Sd Mmc Slot Not Working Pc

After inserting the SD card into your card reader, if there's no drive letter in My Computer to access the SD card, the computer may be low on virtual memory. To resolve this issue, close all open programs and allow your computer to idle for a few minutes. Plug in the SD card again and see if the drive letter appears.

Also, if your computer has Windows Vista, you may need to download and install a patch to fix a known bug relating to issues with reading SD cards in Windows Vista.

Check write-protection

Many SD cards have a feature called write-protection toggled on and off by a switch on the left side of the SD card. With write-protection enabled, files cannot be modified.

If your SD card has a write-protection switch, make sure it's disabled, or in the opposite direction that points to 'LOCK' on the card. Then you can try using the SD card again and see if this fixes the issue.

Formatting

With some card readers, the card is formatted much like how a disk drive is formatted when first used in a computer. In some cases, the device may format the SD card in a way that makes it only readable by that device and nothing else.

Note

If you have trouble getting an SD card to work with your smartphone, the card may be formatted in a format your smartphone doesn't support.

If both the device (e.g., camera) and computer can read the SD card, the computer can access the media regardless of how it is formatted.

A potential fix would be to format the SD card to make the card readable again, but keep in mind that this erases the card. Formatting should be done as a last attempt at getting the card to work.

Replacement

If the above solutions do not work for you, it may be necessary to purchase a new SD card as a replacement. Like any storage media, SD cards fail over time, depending on how much use it gets and where it is used. Extensive use or harsher environments (extreme temperatures or humid climate) can result in SD card failure.

SD Card Slot Doesn't Work

Feb 19, 2007

I have Vista Ultimate x64 installed on an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, and it has a 5-in-1 card reader. When I installed Vista, I did a clean install and before doing so, I wrote a list of the drivers I might need to get later, like my graphics card, wireless network card, etc.I failed to write down the 5-in-1 card reader, so I don't know what model or anything it is, but it doesn't work. On my device manager, I have a section called 'SD Host Adapters', with 'SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller' underneath it. I use an SD card, so I would assume this is related. However, under 'Other Devices', I have three devices called 'PCI FLASH Memory' and they all have a problem. I would assume this is the card slot. Also, does anyone know where I can get x64 drivers for a Synaptics PS/2 Touchpad? It works, but the scrolling features don't work.

Graph Card Not Working After Reinstalling

May 15, 2010

Two weeks ago I was having problems with my laptop and asked a friend to look into it. He reinstalled Windows Vista, but somehow left me without most of my drivers. So far, I've been able to reinstall most of them, but I'm still having trouble with my graph card.
I have a HP dv6500, with an Nvidia GeForce 7300. I've tried to get the driver from Nvidia, but it says that I have no hardware which can use this driver. When going to my Hardware Manager, it calls my graph card a Standard VGA card. This totally keeps me from installing games, video editing software or even watching videos: I always get the message that my graph card cannot accelerate.

Video Card Not Working Properly?

Mar 23, 2008

i got halo 2 for christmas and it said i needed vista. so i got vista and after i installed it i went on that thing that rates your PC's performance and it gave me a 1.0 this makes no sense because my computer is awesome. i have an extremely fast processor, plenty of RAM, and the second best video card available. and when it gave me a 1.0, it said that the cause of this was because my video card wasn't good. when i checked on 'can you run it?' it said that i didn't have the video card that i had put in not long ago. so i am asking this: how come after i installed vista it said my video card was reverted back to my old one that came with my computer?

Graphics Card Or Monitor Can't Working

Sep 23, 2009

I've encountered a problem in recent days concerning either my graphics card or monitor, which one? Im not sure. It all started a yesterday while playing a game of Counter Strike : Source , I had alt-tabbed ingame and decided to alt-tab back into the game and as i proceeded to do this my computer locked up ... couldn't move mouse or anything. So I proceeded to restart my computer. This is where everything went wrong. My monitor was not showing any image, only a black screen with the Analog/Digital box flashing. So I tried a few things to see what would resolve this problem ... Removed all cords, plugged them in agian ect. Unplugged graphics card then plugged back in agian. Restarted PC numerous times. Reinstalling drivers I'm using a DVI to VGA cable connecting my graphics card to my monitor,
I've also tried plugging another monitor into my graphics card, with no result.Onboard graphics work fine. I don't have another graphics card to test it on ... In my computers devices it says the video driver is not installed correctly or something along those lines? Does anybody have a step by step guide on installing drivers?.....

Graphics Card Not Dead, Not Working Either

Oct 16, 2008

I have fixed a few problems with my computers based on the information here. This is my first post. Last night, while playing Sims 2: Apartment Life, my moniter flickered a black screen twice and then froze. Almost immediately after I got a blue screen of death, however the computer shut off faster than I could read. So, this morning I turn on my computer and nothing. I got the white text and the nice big 'e' for emachines with the Boot and Bios keys listed. Then the monitor went to standby. I turned it off and then back on and tried to get boot settings so I could start up in easy mode - thinking something happened to my drivers, but same thing happened, monitor went on standby.
So, I turned the computer off, opened it up and took a look inside. A little dusty, but everything was plugged in right and I made sure the video card was secure. I took the plug out of the video card and put it in the default on board thingy. Started it up, same thing. So, now I'm thinking, '****, my card died'. 'Cept when I turn the machine on the fan starts up. So, I'm confused. I take the card out and start up the computer and BAM, it works. So, I'm still thinking its a dead card. Well, I try a few things, like uninstalling the old video card drivers, restarting and plugging the card in during restart. WIth the moniter still plugged into default and working correctly, I check Device Manager and what do you know?! It lists my card and starts trying to install the drivers. So I go ahead and reinstall the drivers. Says I need to restart, so I do. Sure enough, the monitor just goes to standby like before. Doesn't matter what I plug it into. So I take out the card, plug it into default, and go into my BIOS. I make sure it's reading my video card from the PCI-e slot and such, which it says it is. So, now I'm just confused......

More RAM, Use All Four Slots, The Network Card Stops Working

Sd/mmc Card Slot Not Working

Mar 23, 2008

My Dell 8400 had XP. We upgraded to Vista a month ago. No problems with the
wireless network card. (Netgear WG311 v.3)
HOWEVER - we decided to purchase more RAM for the pc. We called Dell to
purchase the RAM so it would be compatible. We had two 512MB cards in dual
slots. We ordered two 1GB cards to place in the remaining dual slots. That
gives us 3GB of RAM. Vista maxes out at 4MB according to what was sent to me
by NetGear.
The problem is that if we use all four slots, the network card stops
working. If we use two 1GB cards in dual slots, the network card works fine.
If we use all four slots, the network card stops working. We changed the
cards around so the 1GB cards were in one set and the 512MB cards in another
set. We had them paired each time, so that was not the problem.
We ordered two more 1GB cards with the thought that because the four we had
were not quadruplets, that might be the problem. It isn't. Dell took back
the extra RAM.
Dell support blames the problem on NetGear. NetGear blames the problem on
Vista. The technician at NetGear sent me a kb of Vista limits for RAM. When
I replied that we hadn't maxed out on RAM, I got an email that the email I
sent in reply couldn't be delivered.

Display Driver/video Card Not Working

Jun 16, 2009

Sd Mmc Card

I'm running legit copies of Halo 2 and Assassin's Creed, and they tend to crash my display driver/video card at any random old time. Usually around 5 minutes in. Less for AC. I know it's the display driver or video card or whatever because the game freezes with red squiggly lines all over the place, then the monitor says no input detected. The computer, however, is still running. I have Vista Ultimate 32bit, and an EVGA 8800GT. I can post more info if necessary. All my drivers are up to date and I disabled my onboard graphics in my bios so that only PCIE is outputting.
